Episodes and Resilience

The EQ Mindware approach to mental health, resilience and wellness divides along two lines: management and recovery from acute ‘episodes’, and building long-term resilience.

Episode Management and Recovery

Acute mental illness is characterised by significant and distressing symptoms of a mental illness requiring immediate treatment. This may be the person’s first experience of mental illness, a repeat episode or the worsening of symptoms of an often continuing mental illness. The onset is sudden or rapid and the symptoms usually respond to treatment.

Building Long-Term Resilience

There are many advantages to fostering resilience. Resilience helps people face and manage positive and negative life events. Resilient people persist in the face of obstacles and, when necessary, accept circumstances that cannot be changed. Resilience provides a buffer to protect us from psychological and physical health consequences during difficult times.
